A unique piece of New Zealand's maritime heritage, meticulously captured on a fused and slumped glass canvas. This design this design dives beneath Aotearoa's waters to showcase the vibrant Snapper, or Tamure, a fish cherished both as a staple and for its beautiful blend of pinks, reds, golds, and hints of orange. Swimming amongst the kelp, it eagerly approaches a Kina (sea urchin), hinting at the circle of life beneath the waves. The streaks of orange glass provide a lively contrast, reminiscent of the varied hues adorning the Tamure's bright scales.

While Snapper are abundant throughout NZ’s varied coastal water, particularly prized by fishermen are the bigger fish with dark colouring and a pronounced forehead, identifying them as living amongst the Kelp. These are affectionately nicknamed by local anglers as ‘kelpies'.

Our glassware is a testament to the profound beauty of this portrayal and the meticulous craftsmanship that goes into each piece. Starting with a hand-cut 5mm glass base, our artisans screen print the dynamic Tamure and the enticing Kina design. This piece is then fired in an electric kiln where the glass is fused together and gently slumped into molds, capturing the fluidity of oceanic movement.

Complementing this is a stand, designed to evoke the curves of the graceful Ponga Koru, ensuring that your piece is displayed in the grandeur it deserves. We laser-cut the stand in house from New Zealand made board.
