NZ Native Series - Kea and Aoraki / Mt Cook - Medium Rectangle 300x200mm w/stand
A unique piece of New Zealand's heritage, intricately captured on a fused and slumped glass canvas. This design showcases the lively Kea amidst the tussock grass, set against the majestic backdrop of Aoraki / Mt Cook, New Zealand’s tallest peak.
The Kea, with its vibrant green plumage, is the world's only alpine parrot. Its cheeky antics and exceptional intelligence, often said to rival some primates, make it a standout among birds. The Kea has been celebrated not only for its mountainous habitat but also for its spirited behaviors that both amuse and astonish.
The striking green glass is inspired by the Kea's vivid feathers and adds depth and contrast to the piece, reflecting the verdant alpine regions of New Zealand.
Our glassware is a testament to the beauty of this depiction and to the meticulous craftsmanship that goes into each piece. Starting with a hand-cut 5mm glass base, our artisans screen print the spirited Kea and the towering Aoraki / Mt Cook design. This piece is then fired in an electric kiln where the glass is fused together and gently slumped into molds, giving it a delicate concave form that captures light in mesmerizing ways.
Complementing this is a stand, designed to evoke the curves of the graceful Ponga Koru, ensuring that your piece is displayed in the grandeur it deserves. We laser-cut the stand in house from New Zealand made board.
